The Perfect Wedding Dress Shirt

You can always look dapper in a tuxedo that fits like it was made exclusively for you. But it is the wedding dress shirt that complements your attire and steals the show with its understated elegance. Being more than just a layer, it ties all the elements of your outfit together. However, achieving a proper fit can be challenging. To help you out, we have unravelled the nuances of a slim-fit dress shirt!

Five Tips to Consider for a Tailored Slim Fit Dress Shirt

Want to get a dress shirt tailored for a wedding? We know what it takes to achieve a fitting that feels like a dream – without imperfections. Here is what you need to keep in mind:

  1. Chest Width

Make sure that the chest width is not too relaxed. Aim for about 4 to 6 inches of additional fabric. If it is too snug, your movement will be restricted, and those buttons will be under strain. It will give rise to unsightly creases on the shirt. On the flip side, too much room and you will end up with fabric bunching up in places it should not be.

  1. Shoulder Width

A slim-fit shirt is often characterised by subtly narrowed shoulders. However, the shoulder width differs for every man. The area where the shoulder slopes down to the arm is not a pinpoint spot but a smooth curve. This means there is wiggle room in the shoulder width that can work for you.

Opting for a slim fit? Aim for the narrower side of this spectrum, ensuring the shoulder seam sits a touch higher for that sharp, streamlined look. If you prefer a more relaxed fit, let the yoke settle a tad off the shoulder, adding a casual vibe to your style.

  1. Midsection

If the midsection feels too movable around the waist, it can break the look. Make room for up to 4 to 6 inches of extra material. The trick is squeezing the fabric at the sides, still having a fold of up to 2 to 3 inches. Avoid a super slim fit, as it might tug on the bottom button while sitting. It will make you feel suffocated while compromising the charm of the dress shirt

  1. Sleeve Width

Achieving the perfect sleeve fit is all about a sensation of comfort and confidence. You want them snug around your arms but not so tight that you cannot move. We do not recommend a super slim arm fit for men with elongated arms. It will restrict arm bending. The sleeves should accentuate your arm muscles while giving you the freedom to move.

  1. Armholes

Consider opting for a higher armhole, as it reduces the extra fabric that tends to gather there. This armhole design will provide maximum movement support, but it may feel snug if you are not accustomed to it.

A well-fitted wedding dress shirt is not just about how it looks in the mirror but how it feels when you slip it on. At House of Tailors, we offer innumerable customisation options for your shirt tailored to celebrate your special day.
